Serie A matches round off
The race continues to hot up in serie A league games with all teams giving out what they have. In Pumula East grounds Bantu Rovers taught East Rovers a football lesson as their under 16 shot half a dozen past their counter parts and as if that was not enough the vistors under 18 were even ruthless hammering a half a dozen and half past rovers. East Rovers only redemeed themselves in the under 14 where they managed a one all draw with the vistors. If East Rovers does not pull up their stockings they are likely to go back to serie B to re-organise next year. East Rovers's neighbours Toronto playing in their new ground Emara for the first time refused to be intimidated by their more illustrous opponents Ajax Hotspurs as they played a one all draw in the under 14, a two all draw in the under 18 before they were edged 1-0 by the vistors in the under 16 age group. Toronto which used to be the whipping boys last season has vastly improved and any team visiting them at Emara will have a torrid time. The return of the Zimbabwe international Mncedisi Gumede who was their toast in the under 18 by scoring both goals could be the right tonic for Toronto.
A Ding-Dong Affair in Serie A
27/05/12
Its a ding-dong affair in the
Serie A Zifa Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Junior League as the teams
keep changing position with and up and down yoyo style. There is no
distinct favourite as all the log Standings are a close affair showing
great strides made by most of the teams in this elite league.Log Leaders in the Serie A Under 14s Ajax Hotspurs missing three of
their influential National Under 13 player who are set to leave for
Poland on tuesday were clobbered by an impressive LMC in Lobengula who
defied the standings to embarass their more illustrious opponents.
EM Sports also showed great character holding the much fancied
Highlanders Academy 0-0 in their own den at the Club House. Fast
improving Matabele Warriors star continues to rise as they beat FMH
Academy 1-0 to mantain their push for top honours. Makhandeni City
Pirates were too strong for Chicken Inn sending the baby chicks
scumpering for cover in their fowl run with a masterly crafted 2-1 away
win. Otrick Spares had no respect for a legendary figure as they
thumped Agent "Ajira" Sawu's Rising Stars 3-0. The rising stars failed
to rise to the occasion and they were eclipsed by Otrick for love. East
Rovers were roving as they stuffed out the poison off the Green Mamba
that failed to strike even after being stamped on the tail.
In
the Under 16s Highlanders Academy were held by an Eddie Mukahanana
bankrolled EM Sports to a battling 0-0 draw so did the baby chicks who
could not find a way past Makhandeni. East Rovers pummeled the Green
Mamba to submission with a 2-0 win.. Matabele Warriors showed battle
hardened approach to snatch vital points at 1-0.. Ajax Hotspurs were
1-0 winners over LMC with Ronald Choga Kaunda finding the all important
goal.
The Green Mamba gallantly fought back to poisonously
strike back when it mattered most and East Rovers were left Green with
Envy as they were clobbered 5-0 in their own backyard. Ajax Hotspurs
were 4-1 winners over LMC in an exciting battle with LMC featuring
Ronald Gidiza's promising son Brandon. Ajax Hotspurs got ahead through
Mensah before LMC struck rback to send false impressions to their home
fans. Flattered to deceive they did as Ajax Hotspurs showed great
character and when Mensah struck a sweetly curling goal past a bemused
LMC keeper who was left standing akimbo, Hotspurs were cruising and LMC
were losing.
With LMC hoping that a goal can put them level,
hard running future lobbed the keeper for a third and it was now one way
traffic before future completed his brace to all but seal maximum
points for the visitors.Highlanders Under 18s lost for the
first time this season and once again Eddie Mukahanana's proteges were
in devastating form beating their more fancied adversaries 2-1. Chicken
breasts continued their impressive start to the season as they are yet
to drop a point and Makhandeni became part of the statistics as they
were turned into chicken gizzards to complete a competitive weekend in
the Serie A fixture.
Bantu Rovers emerge winners at Benjani soccer tournament
20/05/12
Bantu Rovers...(1) 1 Mthabisi Tshuma scored the goal that made the difference in the first half. He had a good tournament harassing defenders at will and scoring in almost every match.Bantu Rovers showed tactical discipline, maintaining shape in both attack and defence and deservedly won the event which organisers said would be an annual tournament. To get to the final Bantu Rovers topped Group A in which they were pooled with Ajax, Magwegwe Secondary School and Chicken Inn. | BENJANI Mwaruwari with winners of the inaugural Benjani Mwaruwari Junior Soccer Tournament, Bantu Rovers |

Highlanders on the other hand were held 1-1 by FMH academy before beating Agent Sawu’s Rising Stars Academy 4-0 and Emakhandeni 1-0 in Group B.In the semi-finals Bantu Rovers were in a mean mood dismissing Emakhandeni 4-1 while Highlanders beat Ajax 2-1.

They will also be given track suits donated by Mwaruwari. The finalists were presented with uniforms which the sponsor said he would be happy if they are given to individual players after the tournament.Seven other players were identified after impressing Ali Dube and Simba Rusike who were the panel of judges for individual prizes. Bantu Rovers’ Bukhosi Sibanda came up for mention for a good tournament’s performance and was the top goalscorer.Moyo of Magwegwe Secondary School was the event’s best goalkeeper.Speaking at the end of the tournament Mwaruwari said he would make the tournament an annual event.“I am impressed with what I saw. I would like to make this an annual event, this has been part of my testimonial activities with a dinner to follow in Harare on Friday on the eve of the match.“This is part of the Benjani Mwaruwari Foundation which will be launched in Harare on Friday and will be followed by the match on Saturday,” said Mwaruwari. He praised the organising committee led by Sihlangu Dlodlo for a well run event.
The match brought curtains down on the two-day event which attracted fair crowds. Among the spectators were Mwaruwari and his family, former Warriors players Dazzy Kapenya, Ronald Sibanda,Ephrain Chawanda, Godfrey Paradza, Harlington Shereni, Zenzo Moyo, former senior national team manager Ernest Sibanda, Highlanders chairman Peter Dube and Ozzie Sibanda who lives in the UK and turned out for Hwange and Masvingo United. HIGHLANDERS, BANTU , MAKHANDENI SAIL THROUGH 20/05/12 Highlanders
Academy, Bantu Rovers, Makhandeni Pirates booked their place in the
semi-finals of the under 16 Benjani Mwaruwaru Youth festival at White
City stadium, while Ajax Hotspurs and Magwegwe secondary are set to
settle their matter tomorrow after the two teams failed to settle their
matter during the round robin matches where they played a goal less draw
and the two teams could not be seperated after the end of the games.
The teams had the same number of goals scored, same number of
goals conceeded and the fairest thing was to order a replay for both
teams. The winner will play Highlanders Academy in the semi-finals while
Makhandeni Pirates play tournament favourites Bantu Rovers in another
semi-final.
Bantu rovers beat Chicken Inn 2-1 in a fiercely fought
match which was settled by a wonderful strike by Mthabisi Tshuma right
at the end of the game. In the other games they adged Ajax Hotspurs by a
single goal before beating Magwegwe secondary by the same score line to
make it three out of three. Highlanders |

In their last match they edged Makhandeni Pirates by a single goal to finish at the top of the log. Makhandeni Pirates finished as runners up to Highlanders Academy after hitting half a dozen past the Agent Sawu coached Rising Stars before playing a 1-1 draw with F.M.H Academy.
GRASSROOTS PARTNERS JUNIOR LEAGUE BY M. MTHUNZIOrganizations continue to have faith in the junior football as evidenced by Grassroots and Barclays bank’s involvement. Last year four top teams in the under 18 age groups were selected namely Highlanders Academy, Ajax Hotspurs, Bantu Rovers and Chicken Inn to participate in the grassroots Barclays bank trophy. The games were played at Bango grounds and quite a number of people came to watch the youngsters. Players, coaches and the surrounding community took advantage of the presence of non- governmental organization that are involved in the fight against Aids. Some took the opportunity to know their status while some young players were seen asking questions and reading some literature that was there. At the end of the day Ajax Hotspurs prevailed after beating Chicken Inn in a penalty shoot out to become the first winners of this tournament. This year’s trophy has already found a new home when Bantu Rovers silenced all the big guys in the under 18 age group that included Highlanders Academy, Chicken Inn, the defending champions Ajax Hotspurs and the hosts Magwegwe Youngsters to be crowned the champions. Bulawayo junior league is proud to partner the two organizations to fight the killer disease that continues to decimate the youth of today. BULAWAYO CONTRIBUTES TO THE FINAL 16 IN THE VW TOURNAMENT
19/05/12Bulawayo province junior league continues to shine as it managed to contibute five players in the under 13 VW junior masters that is set to start in Poland on the 30th of May 2012. This contribution comes hotly after another significant contribution in the under 20 national team. The boys that have made the grade are Reward Muza, Nyasha Galayi and Onias Zibande not Ozias as it has been wrongly put on may publications all from Ajax Hotspurs, former E.M.Sport defender Panashe Nyahwa now with Bantu Rovers also made the grade, while the last slot went to Xetsha Ndlovu who plays his football with a local school SOS.

BULAWAYO FORSAKES GOLD FOR DEVELOPMENT
16/05/12 MR M .MTHUNZI Bulawayo province met and resolved that since the players that were groomed last year to put a strong challenge this year in the youth games scheduled for Mashonaland Central have been selected for the under 20 national team and some have been snatched by the premier league teams- the way forward is to forget about that team and build a new team. Some members felt that winning gold will be a true reflection of what we have been doing and winning gold will bring pride to the city that last won it a decade ago. At the end the general feeling was that the province must continue with its developmental projects and everything will fall in place as we have the potential to bring gold with the hidden talent within our ranks. The province resolved that they will continue to put its faith on the previous technical department that is headed by Melusi Shepherd Sibanda from the Zifa junior league and will be assisted by Arnold Macheza who was seconded to the province by NASH- a sport grouping of all secondary schools and our partners in football development. Marko Dube has been returned as the provincial team manager. The building of the team will centre on the 1994 age group that we are likely to return next year as we will be hosting the tenth edition of the national youth games and that is when we will try to win it. | Blessed

The technical team has forwarded their program to the office and preparations are likely to start soon. The provincial coach was given the platform to address members on his expectations if we are to make headway in our preparations. Despite the challenges faced by the technical department of assembling a new and young team the province is still eager to see them bring gold as they are not going to make up numbers but to compete and bring gold. Everybody believes that we have been doing well in our development as shown by the under13 and 14 teams that have done well beating all the provinces serve for one- Harare. Teams with players that will have been identified were urged to put Bulawayo first.
This year’s youth games edition will be different as the province which has been relying on borrowing from its affiliates received a full kit from Mr Isaac Mbedzi.IHLATHI ACADEMY EXPELLED FROM SERIA A

DIASPRIANS CHALLENGED TO START FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS
15/05/12
BY MR M. MTHUNZI
Zimbabwe has a number of very highly qualified coaches some who have established their own very successful academies in many countries across Europe to cater for the indigenous kids there and mostly probably with some few very good players that come from Africa. Knowing Zimbabweans as I do, once they arrive and settle in any given country the first thing they do is to organize themselves and establish a burial society because they know that once death strikes their fellow Zimbabwean should be sent home to rest in peace with the ancestors. Then other organized events like bringing our own re-owned Tuku to perform for them in a selected place or selected places will follow. I personally challenge our fellow Zimbabweans across Europe especially coaches to assembly a predominantly Zimbabwe squad in various age groups that will train as Zimbabwe and participate in open competitions in Europe- that is to say a Zimbabwean coach in Canada will assemble a Zimbabwean squad there, the same with the other coach in U.K and other surrounding European countries where Zimbabweans are more pronounced- these coaches with the blessing of the local mother body will then select a squad that will represent Zimbabwe in open competitions in that particular country. The best players that will have been groomed will then be recommended to the young warriors in the under 15, 17,20 and under23 age group together with the local boys to form an all inclusive formidable squad called Zimbabwe. Such a project once adopted will see the Zimbabweans in diaspora playing each other and also play against our own local boys at white city stadium, Dibulabadzimu, Mucheke and other venues. We will also have our local boys reciprocating or returning the favour by travelling world over to play against their counter-parts in various countries in Europe during the school holidays. This will in the long term build a strong and inclusive squad.
The squad that I have alluded to will be dominated by the diasporians as there are better training facilities there and as time goes on there will be exchange programmes that will see other talented young boys going to learn and play football at a very tender age overseas and that will in turn improve the quality of our players other than having our players only going there when they are above twenty five when we in fact we will be knowing that they will be above that age when you factor in the element of age cheating that is so rampant in this counrty.
May I end by proposing that we start by mobilizing the kids from towns, then towns join hands to cover the whole country then those countries after liasing with other coaches in other countries then a tentatively young Zimbabwean squad made up of diasporans is formed and can represent Zimbabwe in world football forums considering that we (Zimbabwe) are always financial handicapped. If this project kicks off then we can start thinking about the warriors winning the Africa Cup and the world cup.
TRAINING OF COACHES 12/05/12 There is still great need to invest on manpower development if our football development especially at grassroots level is to improve. Last year saw Bulawayo province training more than forty grassroots coaches that were challenged to go out on voluntary basis and coach at nearby schools and those who were already coaching in the juniors were given the task to introduce the under 10s and 12s in their respective teams. The teams were to curtain raise the junior league games if the fixtured teams had adequate resources to ferry the boys to the match venue although the results were not going to be captured by the League. This saw a great improvement on our under 14s as they were very comfortable with the ball and at that tender age there were already familiar with playing in front of crowds. Resources permitting we are looking forward to have more grassroots coaching courses especially those that specializes in goalkeeping. We are also eager to have partners that will help us to have our coaches sent to further their coaching knowledge overseas, the same with the administrators if we are to keep abreast with football development. We have made our position very clear that we are the next hosts for the next FIFA Grassroots Course and Bulawayo is ready to host. We believe we have the capacity and we must be given the opportunity to host. Training of our developmental coaches remain the corner stone of our organization’s vision. |
Bulawayo Province under 20 that had initial contributed eleven
players. | The Bulawayo province which did not go beyond the first round in the last year’s Youth games and was a laughing stock because of the poor performance had the last laugh when the same team contributed half the national under 20 team that knocked out the Young Zebras of Botswana leaving the reigning champions and other provinces wondering how they beat such a team in the first place . The players that made the grade are Knox Mutizwa, Nqobile Masuku, Kelvin and Elvis Moyo, Crispen Ncube, Lawrence Mhlanga, Mgcini Sibanda, Kudakwashe Mahachi (vice Captain), Crispen Machisi and Madzongwe and it could have been eleven if Marvelous Nakamba had returned from the USA as he had also made the grade. We would like to express our gratitude to the new under 20 coach Mr Jairos Tapera and his technical team for taking their time visiting all the provinces to select the players strictly on merit unlike his predisessors who relied on friends who will in turn select their friends players. This is a step in the right direction and I challenge other coaches that are involved with developmental national teams to take a leaf and emulate him. Results are there for everybody to see when there is transparency in team selection. Bulawayo province had sent the youngest team in the national youth games last year and it will do the same this year as we are targeting players that were born in 1994, 1995 and 1996 and I can assure you that we will not be going to make up numbers in Mashonaland Central but to compete and bring gold to the City Of Kings and Queens. |

INTER PROVINCIAL TOURNAMENT - UNDER 14
23/05/12
by Faith DubeThe peformance of the Bulawayo province under 14 can be summarized as the best perfomance to date as the province has been coming eighth out of the ten provinces. This has been a worrying factor for a long time. In 2010 we sat down and annalysed our short comings and we found out that the biggest handicap was the quality of coaches that were coaching our youngstars. A random visit to the training grounds showed that even the Zimbabwe Coaches Association syllabus did not adquately address the needs of the junior teams as the graduates came out of these courses armed with the division two or three stuff. Graduates were giving the youngstars a torrid time as kids as youmg as below 10 were seen doing endurance exercises. Lady lucky finally smiled at us after we managed to convince the powers that we desperately needed this course as a province. The Technical Advisor Mr Pageals finally came to our rescue and conducted a grassroots course targeting our practising coaches in the junior league and the surrounding provinces that included Matebeleland North, South, Masvingo and Midlands.
After finishing the course graduates were advised to go and form under 10s and under 12 in their respective clubs and some were advised to approach their nearest schools with the intention of coaching youngstars in these schools on voluntary basis. These programmes gave the province a very solid development foundation as these youngstars grasped the basics at a very tender age. When we were invited in this tournament we were positive that we were definately going to compete. We were grouped on what I will call the group of death featuring teams like junior power houses Like Manicaland, Midlands and later playing Mashonald East in the semi final. Managing to beat these team was not a mean achievement and only to loose to Harare one nil in the final. It is clear that our development programmes are on the ascend and what remains is to keep the momentum.
